Why I offer a sliding scale?
I offer a sliding scale because the reality is that capitalism is ever so present and doing its job of silencing. To silence one's body through monetary binding is inhumane. Knowing that this is the work I am supposed to be doing left me at the drawing board of what is access, what does that truly mean and what does it look like? What will it take for every black woman to have a doula and know that that is their birthright, whether through fertility, birth and/ or postpartum?
In taking a step back, speaking with previous clients and my doula sisters I realized that something so sacred is now being viewed as a luxury. I widened my access because I refuse to let capitalism win and compromise the safety of birthing bodies, specifically black women. Having a doula is a birth right and one in which I honor strongly as birth work is rooted in my lineage. A doula can provide life-changing care and should not be in question because of affordability.
SunshineFLO is committed to resisting the systems of oppression through living authentically and honoring the sacred transition of birth, widening access to provide care is our resistance.

What are my options when paying?
Unfortunately at this time we are unable to take insurance however we do offer flexible payment options for our clients, are FSA/ HSA eligible and offer a sliding scale to clients. As your doula we will create a payment plan centered towards what works for you. A payment plan may look different for everyone. With that in mind everythings begins and ends with a transparent conversation so that your needs are best met. The only requirement when choosing your payment plan is that our clients are paid in full by week 35.
How does a sliding scale work?
Where you fall on the sliding scale can only be determined by you. Things to consider when taking a look at the sliding scale are the resources available to you at the moment, what you can afford and the care you would like to receive. Below there is an image that can be used as a reference when deciding where you feel you fit best on the scale.
