Honoring humanity and resisting systems of oppression through living authentically through the reliance of creativity, joy, education and holistic wellness.

Welcome to SunshineFLO! My name is Ashauna also known as Sunshine Shauna. I started SunshineFLO while I was in grad school at the University of Pittsburgh. I was in a program in which I hated and one who stole my joy and left me questioning my worth with the culprit being capitalism. At the height of a pandemic joy became my number one priority and where my healing would eventually take place. Intentional rest and honoring myself became my main focus. It was here where I explored my passions in proximity to my center, without trauma, fear, and capitalism. It was here where I revisited my dreams as a little girl of being whatever I wanted to be, which included education, movement, art, mentorship, birth-work, and an infinite amount of joy. Today that joy has transformed into SunshineFLO. This is the place in which my inner child thrives and welcomes those whose spirits do the same.Through creativity, education and holistic wellness is where all of my passions rest.

Serene Guide and Soulful Luminator, Community-Based Doula

Hello, my name is Karen Mitchell and I have been a caregiver and babysitter since I was a child. As I grew older, I became a behavioral health tech and a teacher, among other things. I have always felt a calling to be a healer and caregiver, and I base everything I do on love. My life experiences and my experiences with the healthcare system have led me to become a community-based doula that loves postpartum care. At a young age, I found out that I was battling endometriosis. I chose to begin with my own self-healing, and throughout that process, I learned more about women who needed support and community, just like me. My specialty is behavioral health and postpartum care, and I make it my mission to support the health and safety of all birthing persons, no matter the circumstances.

Caring Connections Liaison and Community-Based Doula

As a birth worker I will educate, empower, and support mothers during their birth journey. My goal is to help parents create positive memories of birth, regardless of the challenges that may arise. I approach being a birth worker with a dedication to working openly with the unique perspective, abilities, challenges, and needs of laboring mothers and their support team. I am passionate about offering a non-judgmental and individualized support of a care surrounding the family’s choices, the environment, their intentions, and medical care during birth. With an attentive and wholehearted presence, I will aid women and their support team with physical and emotional comfort measures, pain coping methods, relaxation techniques, understanding of birth physiology, communication with medical staff, and supported involvement of a partner or birth companion. I truly feel blessed to attend any birth, but I have a special interest in helping mothers focus on their mental health during their pregnancy and those mothers who may need extra guidance in navigating the healthcare system for the best possible care.
